Candy Corn Cake Pop Topped Cupcakes And
A McCormick Spice Spooky Squad Giveaway

McCormick recently asked me to be a part of their Spooky Squad, and share some of their (and my) fun Halloween ideas with my readers, as well as host a giveaway full of great Halloween baking goodies.  McCormick has a number of fun Halloween recipes up on their website and on their Monster Mash Pinterest board.  I decided to make their Candy Corn Cupcakes and put my own spin on them by topping them with Candy Corn Cake Pops.

You could whip up these or some other fun treats with your own Spooky Squad Kit from McCormick.

The candy corn cupcakes were very easy to make.  I followed the directions on McCormick for the cupcakes.   I made half of my cupcakes in the orange and yellow combo as the directions called for, then made the rest of my cupcakes in solid yellow and solid orange.   After baking, the solid color cupcakes were on their way to becoming cake pops (well, cake balls to be exact).   You can see how I make my cake pops in this post.

For each cake pop/ball, I would take a bit of the yellow cake and a bit of the orange cake and work them together.   The more you work them together the more of a marbled effect you will get.

After that they were dipped in chocolate coating, given a few sprinkles and topped with a candy corn.  The cupcakes were frosted with vanilla frosting and topped with some sprinkles as well (can’t really get enough sprinkles).

Yay for cupcakes, cake pops and candy corn!

Ah love a cake pop topped cupcake!

To see how I make my cake pops, check out this post!  I mixed these ones with vanilla frosting and as usual I go by the consistency of the mixture versus a specific amount of frosting (as every cake/frosting is a bit unique).  I always start with a little bit of frosting and add a bit at a time to get to the desired consistency.

Gingerbread! I’m originally from England and its a firm favourite around the Autumn, specifically for Halloween and Bonfire night. Its great when cut into spooky shapes like Gravestones, ghouls and zombie Gingerbread people (arms and legs missing, perhaps even a head!).

  31. Ashley Outland says

My favorite sweet to make for Halloween are sugar cookies cut into Halloween shapes with cookie cutters & decorated with colored frosting! Fun, easy, & a Halloween tradition for us! :)

  32. Dana Lenzo says

These look like so much fun! I think you could take it a step further by pushing the candy corn down into the cake pop ball and leave the yellow part out and use blue or green frosting to draw on a pupil of the eye and then some black lashes to make it look like a giant eyeball!

  33. Carly says

I like to make “gross” halloween foods- things that look disgusting and spooky, but taste delicious. This is pretty ironic because i’m very visual, and I can’t eat anything that looks weird- honestly i can’t even use blue toothpaste because it just grosses me out to put something that color in my mouth. But for halloween, bring on the brains and eyeballs and severed fingers =]

  34. Nicole says

My favorite sweet to eat is Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins. Just the right ratio of peanut butter to chocolate.

  35. Brenda says

Would love to win this great giveaway. I could use the worms in my popcorn balls that I am making with marshmellows. Thanks

  36. Alison says

I make a pumpkin layer cake with cream cheese frosting… so delish! I also love to indulge in a caramel apple or 2 around this time of year!

  37. Melody says

How fun is this giveaway! I can’t wait to win so I can bake extra special treats for my school, for my son’s Halloween party at school and for our Halloween party with friends!

  38. says

I am for sure a candy corn girl! As a child, though, we always got cartons of orange drink from one of the houses, and so I really like that at Halloween, too!

  39. Susan says

This has to be be one of my most favorite sites for Facebook and your blog. I love being the Grandma who has all the cool ideas (from you) for all the holidays. I also drive a school bus and love giving things to my bus students with ideas from you. Thanks for all your help making me the COOLEST!!!!

  40. KariAnnM says

I love making all kinds of treats, but my favorite Halloween treat is honestly Baby Ruths. LOL It’s the only time I eat them. My kids all know to save me at least one!

  1. […] You’ve heard of both cake pops and cupcakes, but how about a combination of the two? Yes, these traditional cupcakes are topped with a frosted cake pop to give them a unique look and an extra “pop” of flavor! The trick lies in the assembly — make a batch of cupcakes and a batch of cake pops both using the same flavored batter. Frost the cupcakes, then frost the cake pops before sticking one on top of the other; the frosting will act like glue and hold them together! Source Love From the Oven […]
