Sweet This Week – Catching Up

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year.  I think I skipped a weekly wrap up, so it’s time to get back into the groove and recap what’s been going on around here.

One of the biggest things going on around here is that I announced that I will now be sharing more of my “Away From The Oven” type of stuff here on Love From The Oven.  The main focus will still be baking, sweets, treats and recipes, but I will also be sharing some DIY projects, house and home types of things as well as some parenting and daily life posts.

I will also be sharing some more personal posts about the journey we are on raising a child with special needs, something that has become such a big part of our daily life over the past year.    I will be putting a small icon in front of the “Away From The Oven” posts, so that if you are strictly here for the food (and there is not a single thing wrong with that!) you will know at a glance that a post is not food related.

So, let’s get to what else has been going on since my last Sweet This Week wrap up.  I shared a recipe for Cinnamon Caramel Swirl Bars.  We LOVED these.  It is such a unique flavor combo.   If you need a non-chocolate dessert, this is a great one to try.

I made some crazy over the top Rainbow Cupcake Pop On The Top Cupcakes as part of a virtual baby shower for Meaghan Mountford, of The Decorated Cookie, to celebrate the arrival of her baby girl.

I made some glitter cake pops.  While these were done in Christmas colors, you could make them in any color and it would still be the same process.   I shared the different supplies that I used.   I even shared a video of how I made them.  Pink and red for Valentines would be awesome!  :)

I made the most amazingly delicious Caramel Pecan Rolls.  Oh. My. Word.  These are quite possibly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.  True story.  If you aren’t a nut person, just leave them out, trust me, they will still be mind blowingly good.

And because I love caramel, I also made homemade Cajeta sauce – a Mexican caramel sauce.  While it is quite delicious straight from the spoon, it is also really yummy on top of brownies.    This recipe is a great way to dress up box brownies and make them into something special.

I whipped up some cake pop fondue for my girls for New Year’s Eve.  So easy and such a hit with the kids.  This would be great for parties.

I talked a bit about making sure that when you say “yes” to others, it doesn’t mean you are saying “no” to you.   I also shared a free printable.

I recapped some of my favorite recipes from 2012, starting with January through March recipes.  Lots of great Valentine options in there as well as tutorials on cake pops, pretzels and working with chocolate.

I also shared my favorites from April 2012.  I had planned to share April-June, but April was a month packed full of sweetness and it needed a recap all it’s own.

I shared some of my favorite baking substitutes for All Purpose Flour. 

And finally I shared the magnetic whiteboard calendar I made for my family.   I’ve been tired of writing the same 50+ appointments/meetings/classes we have each month on our calendar, so I decided to make them into magnets.  Love it!  I shared some free printables of the magnets I made, in case you want to make them for your calendars.
