Course Main Course
Skip the deep frying and make air fried chicken instead! Marinated chicken thighs are battered and cooked to crispy perfection in the air fryer.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 1 hour
Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt divided
  • 1 tsp lemon juice about half a lemon
  • 4 chicken thighs bone in, skin on
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp dried basil
  • cooking spray

Instructions

  • Place the chicken thighs in a large Ziploc bag.
  • Pour in the whole milk, 1 teaspoon salt, and lemon juice over top the chicken. Shake the bag to incorporate the ingredients.
  • Let all the chicken thighs marinate in the milk mixture for 30-45 minutes in the refrigerator.
  • Combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, onion powder, ½ teaspoon salt, cumin, and dried basil into a large bowl. Mix well.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and preheat it to 360 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Shake excess milk mixture off each thigh before coating it in the flour mixture.
Once all thighs are coated, place them in the basket on an even layer. Do not stack chicken thighs. If your air fryer is not large enough to fit the thighs in an even layer, you can cook in batches.
  • Spray each thigh with cooking spray.
  • Cook for 17 minutes. Flip the chicken thighs and cook for an additional 6 minutes or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
    Best served warm.

Notes

Note: 1 cup of buttermilk can be substituted for the whole milk and lemon juice.
