Equipment

  • Crock Pot 4 1/2 quart is a nice size for this recipe, but other sizes can be used

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 16 ounces pork sausage
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 medium size bell pepper (diced)
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce (an 8oz can of tomato sauce is perfect)
  • 1/2 cup water (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (measured packed)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Heat a large dutch oven or deep skillet over a medium high heat. Add the beef, sausage, diced onion and green bell pepper and cook until the meat completely browns. This takes approximately 10 minutes. Drain the meat well once there is no more pink.
  • Add the browned meat to the Crockpot. Pour in the tomato sauce, water, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt and flour.
  • Stir to combine, then allow it to cook on high for 4 hours. Once the 4 hours is up, serve on hamburger buns of your choice and enjoy!
