Chewy, delicious and easy, these homemade red velvet brownies are a fun and festive way to celebrate Valentine's Day, Fourth of July or Christmas!

Equipment

  • 8x8 baking pan

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 oz red food coloring (more or less can be used as desired)
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder (natural or Dutch process)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare and 8x8 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, approximately 2-3 minutes. Add in food coloring and beat until well combined. Add in cocoa powder and beat until well combined. Add in eggs, one at a time, beating until combined after each egg.
  • Add in flour and salt, and mix by hand until well combined, but do not overmix. Transfer mixture to prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for approximately 35-45 minutes or until center of brownie starts to set (won't jiggle when you shake the pan gently) and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on a wire cooling rack.
  • If desired, once brownies are completely cool, frost with cream cheese frosting.
