Huli Huli Sauce Ingredients

- Brown Sugar – You can use light or dark brown sugar.
- Ketchup – Whatever brand you keep on hand will work.
- Soy Sauce – If you are sensitive to salt, definitely go with a low sodium soy sauce.
- Chicken Broth – This is another item where you might want to pick the low sodium variety.
- Ginger Root – Minced fresh ginger root is great, but don’t worry, frozen crushed ginger works as well.
- Garlic – Freshly minced is great, but jarred garlic also works.
- Rice Vinegar – While rice vingear is the best option, in a pinch you could use apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar.
- Sesame Oil – In a pinch a different neutral oil could be used.
How To Make Huli Huli Sauce

Step 1: Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl.

Step 2: Whisk until well blended.

Step 3: If using as a marinade, remove any amount you will want to use to baste or as a sauce.

Step 4: To marinate chicken, add chicken breasts or thighs to a container or freezer bag and pour sauce over to coat. Place in fridge.

Do Not Reuse Marinade: If you use your Huli Huli Sauce as a marinade, once you pull the chicken out, you need to dispose of the remaining sauce to avoid the risk of food borne illness from raw chicken. If you plan to baste or use the sauce, set some Huli Huli Sauce aside and to not use it with the raw chicken.

Storage Tips
Store any unused Huli Huli Sauce tightly covered in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Remember, do not keep, reuse or save any sauce that has touched the raw chicken. Food safety keeps everyone happy!


Huli Huli Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark, packed)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (regular or low sodium)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth (regular or low sodium )
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger root (minced or grated, frozen can be used)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk the brown sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, and chicken broth. Next, combine the minced ginger root, garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
- Sauce can be used as a marinade, can be used to baste chicken or you can use it as a sauce. If using as a marinade DO NOT reuse the marinade sauce. Any sauce that has touched raw chicken should be disposed of after marinating to avoid the risk of food borne illness .
