These are one of my daughter’s all time favorite treats, and they are so easy to make at home, and so inexpensive!

For these slushies, we went with a cotton candy flavor, but you can make them any flavor (and color) you like. You can even leave out the food coloring if you are so inclined. Blue raspberry is one of our favorites.

Easy Homemade Slushies
Ingredients
- 4 cups of cold water
- 1 cup of sugar (sugar substitutes do NOT work well in this recipe, it freezes best with sugar)
- 1 1/2 tsp flavor extract such as raspberry (lemon, orange, cotton candy, cherry or vanilla)
- 2-6 drops food coloring as desired – since this is just for appearances (you can completely omit if you prefer)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine water and sugar and stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Add in flavor extract and stir well. Follow with a few drops of food coloring to achieve your desired color. Stir well. Pour into your ice cream maker (this recipe was tested in a 1 and 1/2 quart ice cream maker) and turn on and run according to ice cream maker package directions. Let run for approximately 20-30 minutes or until desired consistency is reached. Serve immediately.

Meet Christi, Love From The Oven
I’m Christi I love sharing easy & delicious recipes that your family & friends will love. I’m a mom, baker, cookbook author and lover of sprinkles.

Is the cotton candy flavor extract oil base like ones used for candy making? Or what brand is the extract?
You did not say that I needed an ice cream maker. I just waisted so many ingredients.?????
Always a good idea to read the entire recipe prior to going to the store. Lucky for you, water, sugar, extract and food coloring can all be used for other things, so no waste at all really!
What if you dont have a ice cream maker?
The only way I know to get this specific slushee texture is by using an ice cream maker. I do know that there are many great recipes out there for slushees made in blenders, just a different texture.
Cotton Candy extract?? Where does one find this??
Risa, baking supply stores and Amazon are where I’ve found it.
I love slushies! Makes me nostalgic with the Slush Puppies we used to enjoy as kids. Definitely going to make these for the kidlets.
Quick question though, the recipe states cold water and to stir until the sugar has dissolved. Is that right, or stir into boiling water to dissolve then allow to cool completely? I’m assuming it’s granulated sugar, right? Or are you using icing (confectioners’) sugar?
Lisa, yes, just cold water, and I’m just using plain granulated sugar. I’ve had such great success with this route that actually boiling it into a simple syrup hasn’t been necessary! 🙂
