You’ll Love This Hurricane Cocktail

This Hurricane cocktail is so easy to make, you don’t need special bartending skills to whip up a glass. I’ve made this for a girls’ night before, and all my friends were talking about how good it was for a few days after. It’s impressive, simple, and sooo refreshingly delicious, what more could you ask for?

What I Love:

  • So colorful and fun, plus it looks great in pictures!
  • It’s customizable, so if you don’t like rum, you can swap the liquor out for tequila, vodka, gin, etc.
  • This hurricane drink pairs perfectly with poolside snacks. Nachos, wings, dips, you name it!
  • Impressive enough to serve at a party and easy enough to enjoy on a weekend.
  • It only takes 5 minutes to make, and the ingredients last for several days so you can enjoy fresh drinks all week long!

Hurricane Ingredients

This is a discussion about the ingredients. For the actual recipe with amounts, please see the recipe below.

  • Fresh Lime – If you just can’t get fresh, my favorite bottled lime juice is Nellie & Joe’s Key West Lime Juice.
  • Light and Dark Rums – You can use just light rum, but the combination of the two works extremely well.
  • Passion Fruit Juice – You can find this at the grocery store, Welches, Goya, Florida’s Natural and others make versions of it.
  • Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
  • Simple Syrup – To make simple syrup, combine equal parts of water and white granulated sugar in a saucepan and heat, stirring the entire time, until the sugar is fully dissolved. You do not need to actually boil the mixture. Allow to cool completely then you can store it in a glass jar or other airtight container. Store in the fridge for 3-4 weeks.
  • Grenadine
  • Oranges and Maraschino Cherries for Garnish

Christi’s Tips For Success!

Fresh Is Best – For the best, freshest flavor, make sure to find and use fresh fruit in your hurricane.

Shake It Up – Make sure to shake extremely well in order to fully combine all of the ingredients.

Sweet Stuff – Everyone’s sweet tooth is a bit different. You can adjust how much simple syrup and grenadine you use to suit your tastes.

Chill – Chilling your glass before filling it gives you that super refreshing, summer cocktail experience.

Storage Tips

You can make your hurricane a day in advance if you like, or keep the leftovers for a day after. Just make sure to store in an airtight container in your refrigerator. You can also freeze leftovers, though it might not freeze solid due to the alcohol content. But you can still do this if desired to save it for a few weeks.
