This yummy Brioche French Toast is so quick and simple to make.

The recipe is flexible, allowing you to make a Classic or Cake Batter (Funfetti) version.

Inspiration for this fun and festive French toast was inspired by my recent Caribbean Cruise on The Caribbean Princess with Princess Cruises.

Breakfast On Princess Cruises

Each morning there was a fun French Toast in the Princess breakfast buffet. You can see the sprinkles in the picture below. I knew my family would enjoy it, therefore I had to recreate something like it at home.

Plate full of pastries including a donut, bread and french toast

One of my favorite things when I’m on a Princess Cruise is to come down in the morning and discover what’s for breakfast. Each day there were delicious new surprises and creative dishes to discover.

Princess Cruises Breakfast Buffet

Both the Princess Cruises I have been on, an Alaskan Cruise on The Ruby Princess and a Caribbean Cruise on The Caribbean Princess, always had delicious donuts, pastries, yogurts, fluffy pancakes and fruit in their breakfast buffets.

But that isn’t all! There are so many choices, from omelets to eggs cooked to order, pancakes to parfaits, breakfast burritos to bagels to bacon. From meat to sweet (is that a phrase?) you are covered and then some!

There really is something for everyone. Even the most delicious Ultimate Balcony Dining room service breakfast! It is not to be missed!

The only thing better than breakfast in bed, is breakfast on a balcony. On a Princess Cruise ship.

Each morning I would find some new and delicious surprises in the breakfast buffet. The morning below it was the chocolate mousse.

LET ME REPEAT THAT. CHOCOLATE MOUSSE. FOR BREAKFAST.

Pretty sure I could eat chocolate mousse, with an ocean breeze, on a Princess Cruise, every single day!

It was amazing. You just mind find a recreation of it on the blog soon. Stay tuned!

Now if only I could recreate this Caribbean view from the deck of the Carribean Princess!

What were we talking about again?

Oh, that’s right. French Toast!

French Toast Recipe

This recipe can be made two ways. It’s good to have options.

First, there is good, old-fashioned version. It’s a classic. You can’t go wrong.

Next, I’m also going to tell you how to make the CAKE BATTER FRENCH TOAST that I made. Or, if you prefer, Funfetti. Two different names. One delicious and decadent breakfast.

Two slices of French Toast topped with frosting and sprinkles being cut with a pink fork

Really there are even more options though.

You can top this with frosting. As you can see, that’s what I did.

Or you can top this with syrup.

Additional topping options include butter, powdered sugar, butter and powdered sugar (though we’re getting near frosting there).

Don’t forget about jam, fruit or even peanut butter. No matter what your tastes, there is something for everyone.

Want to take it over the top? Sprinkles are the key!

While I might not add sprinkles every time I make this, they are so fun for a special occasion.

Cake Batter French Toast

Just like I loved to be surprised in the breakfast buffet each morning on my Princess Cruises cruise ships, your family will love the surprise of this breakfast.

Think of the fun smiles when your kids see this in the morning!

I know, it’s not quite a Princess Caribbean Cruise, but it can still bring a smile to start the day. This would make a fantastic birthday breakfast or celebration breakfast!

If’ you’ve never been on a Princess Cruise, they are pretty darn spectacular. Each day starts with amazing breakfast options and incredible views.

You’ll be shocked at how that small medallion totally changes cruising!

How Do You Make French Toast

If you are wondering how do you make French Toast, it’s easy!

Best Bread For Making French Toast

You have to start with good bread. Brioche is absolutely my bread of choice.

Yes, you can use whatever bread you have on hand. And I have. The bread I make our sandwiches on just isn’t going to create the same result as a nice, thick piece of Brioche. The bread you use makes a huge difference.

What Bread Is Best For Making French Toast?

-Brioche

-Challah

-Pullman Loaf

-French Bread

One bread I do not recommend – sourdough. Don’t get me wrong, I love sourdough. It’s my go to bread for most everything. But not for French Toast. It’s a matter of taste. I just don’t like the sour flavor in this application. But again, it’s a matter of taste. That’s my taste. Your taste might be totally different.

What Ingredients Are In French Toast

Aside from your bread, the ingredients you need are quite simple. You need the following ingredients to make French Toast:

-Bread

-Eggs

-Milk

-Vanilla

If you want to make the Cake Batter (Funfetti) version, you’ll also need:

-Dry Cake Mix

-Sprinkles

Easy French Toast - Classic Style

No ratings yet
Servings 8 pieces
Prep: 7 minutes
Cook: 20 minutes
Total: 27 minutes
This Easy French Toast recipe is quick to make, delicious to eat. Directions are given so that it can be made as a Classic French Toast or a Cake Batter French Toast.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 slices Brioche bread
  • 4 large eggs (beaten)
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp butter (for the skillet)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl** combine eggs, while milk, vanilla extract and pinch of salt. Stir well to combine until smooth.
  • Prepare a skillet by putting it on medium heat and placing a small pat of the 1 tbsp butter on it.
  • Working one piece of bread at a time, dip bread into the liquid mixture, turning over to make sure each side is covered in mixture. Lift bread and let excess mixture run off.
  • Place slice of dipped bread into prepared skillet, and cook for approximately three minutes on the first side. Once the bottom side is cooked throughly and starting to turn golden, flip over and cook second side. The second side usually cooks quicker than the first side, so start checking after one minute.
  • Repeat with remaining ingredients. Serve immediately.

Notes

*CAKE BATTER VARIATION:
Increase milk in the recipe to 3/4 CUP and add 1 CUP of dry cake mix (vanilla, white, yellow or Funfetti are fine) to the liquid mixture. Stir well to combine and follow remaining directions as usual.
Can be topped with a drizzle or dollop of vanilla frosting if desired. **Make sure the bowl will allow you to dip your bread into the mixture. Flat shallow bowls often work well.
