We’re long time Swifties in this house. My oldest daughter’s first ever concert was seeing Taylor on the Red Tour, and my younger daughter’s first ever concert was the Eras Tour. Talk about setting the bar high for future concerts! My older daughter and I are both writers and lovers of words, lyrics and poetry – of which Taylor is the queen.
We were a few of the very lucky 69,000 people who attended the opening night of the Eras Tour here in Arizona. Anyone who attempted to buy tickets for the tour knows it was almost impossible, and on the first round, we failed. We thought we’d be fine, we had the Capital One Presale, Tickemaster Verified Fan, the boost, and the TaylorSwiftTix Presale. Fail, fail, fail, fail.
Then in December we go notice that as Ticketmaster verified fans who did not purchase tickets we had a chance to purchase two tickets. No idea where the seats would be, or if they’d even be together, just yes or no. So we went for it. Then eventually we learned they were front row (the end on far stage right). My girls took those seats, while my husband and I picked up some obstructed view resale tickets so we could also be there. What an amazing night it was, seeing the incredible show as it debuted. It’s been a long time coming…
The Taylor Swift cookie recipe was shared back in 2014, and resurfaces every time Fall rolls around. With her new album coming out soon, and Autumn just around the corner, I wanted in on some of the fun. So yes, while I might Need to Calm Down with all the Taylor Swift puns, I hope you’ll Stay, Stay, Stay and make these fantastic chai tea cookies with ME!
Ingredient Info
This is a discussion about the ingredients. For the actual recipe with amounts, please see the recipe below.
- Butter – You’ll need unsalted butter at room temperature.
- Vegetable Oil – This or any neutral oil will work. You can sub for canola oil or avocado oil.
- Sugar – You’ll need white sugar, powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar. You can make cinnamon sugar by adding ground cinnamon to some white sugar.
- Flour – Use all-purpose flour for this recipe.
- Chai Tea – You can either use the contents of a chai tea bag, (cut open a bag of chai tea and add it to the dough) OR you can create your own chai tea spice mix using ground cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves, and black pepper. Use one or the other, not both.
- Eggnog – You’ll need a little bit of eggnog for the icing. You can also use whole milk, half and half or cream with a pinch of nutmeg mixed in instead.

My Mastermind Tips For Perfect Cookies
Dear Reader, if you’re wondering how to make the perfect Chai Tea Cookies, here are some expert tips:
- If you are using a bag of Chai Tea spices in your cookies, be sure to find the “finely cut” tea. If your chai happens to be bigger pieces of spices, you can throw it in a food processor to break it down.
- Depending on how you like the consistency of your icing, you can add more powdered sugar to make it thicker, or more eggnog/milk to make it thinner.
- When pressing the cookies flat, you can use a square of wax or parchment paper between the glass and cookie to prevent sticking.
Storage – Store the leftover cookies in an airtight container in the fridge for about 4-5 days. Fridge is best since the icing contains dairy. You can also leave the icing off and store them separately, then ice the cookies when you’re ready to eat.

FAQs
In her original recipe, she doesn’t list the ingredients for the icing, but in an Instagram post, she revealed the cookies were topped with a cinnamon eggnog icing. That means she likely used powdered sugar and eggnog to make the frosting, then sprinkled some cinnamon on top.
Some might say chai tastes like vanilla, and some chai teas do have hints of vanilla. I think it tastes more cinnamon & ginger-like. If you like the flavors of Fall and Christmas baking, you’ll enjoy the flavors of these chai cookies.
