Ingredient Info
This is a discussion about the ingredients. For the actual recipe with amounts, please see the recipe below.
- Butter – Use softened, unsalted butter or this recipe. Salted butter might make the cookies and frosting too salty for those who are salt sensitive.
- Flour – All purpose flour is best for this recipe.
- Sour Cream – The sour cream, when added to the cookie dough, will make it incredibly soft. I don’t recommend leaving this out, or substituting it.
- Sugar – You’ll need white granulated sugar for the cookie base, and powdered sugar for the frosting.
- Sprinkles – Some red, white and green jimmies work just fine, or grab a fancy jar of unique sprinkles if you’d like!

- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Neatly line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil then grease with a non-stick cooking spray.
- Add softened butter and sugar to a bowl and mix with a handheld or stand mixer for 2-3 minutes or until fluffy. Add in the egg then sour cream and beat until combined. Add flour, baking powder and salt, and fold it all together until just combined. Try not to over mix.
- Spoon dough into the baking pan, and press it with your hand to even out the dough into the bottom of the pan. Place in the oven then bake for 15 minutes, or until set. You’ll know it’s ready when the middle is cooked, and the sides are lightly brown. Take the pan out of the oven and allow it to cool completely.
- While cooling, make the frosting. To a bowl, add the softened butter and powdered sugar. Beat this together with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the milk and vanilla and continue to whip until soft and fluffy.
- To make frosting, combine softened butter and powdered sugar in a bowl and mix with an electric mixer until well combined. Once the bars have cooled completely, frost, then add sprinkles to the top. Cut into even squares, then serve. Enjoy!

Tips & Advice

Christi’s Kitchen Tips
Frosting – If you’d like a thinner frosting, add more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time until it’s thin enough for you. If a thicker frosting is desired, continue adding powdered sugar, about a ¼ a cup at a time.
You can also give your frosting a bit of color by adding food coloring, or splitting the batch of frosting into several different colors, and making a sort of tie-dye or ombre pattern on your cookie bars.
Storage – Store the remaining cookie bars in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days. You can also store them in the fridge for up to a week. I personally enjoy when the cookie bars are slightly chilled!

FAQs
There could be several different reasons this occurred. It could be because the size of your oven, the size of the pan you used, (make sure its 9×13) or it be because of the type of pan it was baked in. i.e. glass, aluminum, ceramic.
The inside of the bars should be chewy and soft like regular cookie, and solid with a slight crisp on the outside.
