Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

This is an overview of the ingredients you will need to make this easy smore dip. Important notes and substitutions for certain ingredients are discussed. The full printable recipe, with amounts and specific details, can be found at the bottom of the page.

Chocolate Chips – The recipe calls for chocolate chips, but really any chocolate that melts well works just fine. Things like milk chocolate candy bars, chocolate chunks, or chopped up baking chocolate will work!

Large Marshmallows – If you get the large marshmallows, you may not use the whole bag. (That means more to snack on later!) However, you don’t have to use large marshmallows. You could go smaller or bigger with this recipe. If you’re feeling fancy you could even try colored marshmallows!

Graham Crackers – If you don’t have or like graham crackers, you could use any kind of cookies you enjoy! Peanut butter cookies or wafers work well with this recipe. You don’t have to stop at cookies though, you can serve this dip with fresh fruit, pretzels or even something fun like potato chips!

How To Make Smores Dip

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Next, grab a 9 inch cast-iron skillet and sprinkle the chocolate chips all over the bottom of the pan making sure it’s spread out as evenly as possible.
  2. Next, grab your large marshmallows and place them all over the top of the chocolate chips. You’ll want to try and squish them in fairly tight!
  3. When the oven is ready, bake this for about 10 minutes. You’ll want to be sure and watch this dip closely and take it out of the oven when the marshmallows are a perfect golden brown. Once you take it out, let the pan sit for a few minutes so the chocolate can fully melt.

Recipe Tips and Advice

What To Serve With Smores Dip – Cookies, pretzels, potato chips, crackers, strawberries, apples slices, bananas… whatever you like!

Storage – If there are leftovers (which won’t happen often) you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week max. To reheat this dip, just pop it back in the oven at 350° and keep an eye on it until the chocolate melts.

Materials – You’ll really only need a cast iron skillet for this recipe. It’s highly recommended that you have cast iron specifically for this recipe because it does a great job at melting the chocolate. If you don’t have one, any 9 inch oven-safe baking dish will work fine

Recipe FAQs

How come the chocolate doesn’t look melted, but the marshmallows were ready?

Make sure to let the skillet rest for about 5 minutes after you remove it from the oven, so that the residual heat will finish melting the chocolate chips. You may find that once you dip into them they are actually quite soft.

Can I make smores dip in the microwave?

It’s possible to pop this in a microwave safe dish and cook it. However, the taste may not be the same, and the marshmallows likely won’t have that golden brown color. Overall the presentation may not look as nice as if you cooked it in the oven.
